Busta Rhymes is Back! All his tracks are fire

Thank fuck.

I haven’t blogged here for 3.5 years, because for various reasons, and one of the bigger ones was not being inspired by a lot of music out today. I’ve grown to appreciate some newer artists and go with how hip hop music is evolving, and I feel I’m in a more positive place to write here again.

Shoutout also goes to one of my lifelong friends who will just send me a link to watch after months of not having chatted to each other, because that’s the kinda tight relationships I have with my besties. He was spot on with the BET Cypher 2020 that I blogged about earlier and was the inspiration for me to return to this blog that I started over a decade ago. Thank you to my music peoples.

Busta Rhymes is Back!

Busta Rhymes is back with new singles and an album

Very quickly I found that absolute hip hop legend Busta Rhymes is back with an onslaught of lyrics and videos from his latest album. He’s just been pumping them out over the last 24 hours and I am loving all of it. The ninja-style album was released without too much fanfare with a whole heap of talented people making special guest appearances on the majority of the singles.

Mariah and B

Reuniting with some of his buddies such as Mariah, Bell Biv Devoe and Q-Tip, plus new collabs with Kendrick Lamar, Vybz Kartel and some others I never heard of, it’s a great mix of classic and new BUSTA-BUSS music on this album. Busta Rhymes’ new album Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God is out now.

Busta Who?!

Jamaican American rapper, Trevor George Smith Jr., known as Busta Rhymes, was born May 20, 1972, in Brooklyn, New York. In 1990, he formed the East Coast group Leaders of the New School.

Leaders of the New School established recording in late 1990 in New York, spending time in the studio to perfect their sound. They released their debut album, A Future Without a Past… in 1991. As the typical conflicts of being a group or a band, internal issues arose because of his increasing fame. The group separated on the set of Yo! MTV Raps.

The Coming album cover

The Brooklyn rapper emerged among the most peculiar celebrity’s golden age with his stopping, ragga-inspired lyrics and style characterized by incredible intricacy, creativity, and humour. After rising to prominence with his band Leaders of the New School, the New York native broke out in 1996, having a gigantic hit single, “Woo-Hah!! Got You All in Check”, from his first album, The Coming.

The “Woo-Hah!! Got You All in Check” hit the top and pushed the album to golden record territory. The rapper released his second album with the single “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” which would go on to earn multi-platinum sales status. The “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” would also go on to earn the rapper his second nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance at the 40th Grammy Awards, boosting his career. His singles nominations would set him up for a pretty world-class career, in part due to his musical talent and distinct raspy voice spitting fast bars and high-energy live performances.

Year by year, he made guest appearances on remixes and collaborated in the studio, with producers, rappers and hip hop artists such as Puff Daddy, L.L. Cool J, Rampage and former classmate The Notorious B.I.G. and so the list of prominent New York hip hop artists keeps growing. The highly-anticipated sequel to 1998’s Extinction Level Event album or ‘E.L.E’. is released after 22 years. Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God features an apocalyptic theme that is in theme with the current events and is one of his greater albums.

With the various features, beats, and topics heard on the messy chaotic album, there are a lot of moving pieces in the newly released Extinction Level Event 2 album. It’s about time, B! I hope he’ll release a remix or two. From being a record label producer releasing his latest Extinction Level Event 2 album with a plethora of dope singles to joining the fashion business, Bussa Buss is a man of numerous talents. The artist has set himself up to conquer the worlds of music, film, and fashion. Get your ears ready for the B show.

Below are the tracks on the Extinction Level Event 2 album in order of my personal preference.

Busta Rhymes – Look Over Your Shoulder (Lyric Video) featuring. Kendrick Lamar

Take a baby-faced Michael Jackson classic and use one line as the inspiration for a DOPE ass track with a DOPE ass collaborator. RIP MJ.

Busta Rhymes – Outta My Mind (Audio) featuring Bell Biv Devoe Video

What can I say, I love the sample and this has that new jack swing vibe remix that always gets me up and dancing.

Busta Rhymes, Rapsody – Best I Can (Audio) Video

The sampling on this gives me such chills, it is so well-produced. DAMN. The message is really interesting, real deep. Love to those going through this.

Busta Rhymes – You Will Never Find Another Me (Audio) featuring ‎Mary J. Blige Video

Of course you would find an R&B/soul queen on here, yes yes yes Mary J.!

Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross – Master Fard Muhammad (Audio) Video

I love soulful samples and this one is a smooth mmmm saxophone mood.

Busta Rhymes – Deep Thought (Audio) Video
Busta Rhymes, ‎Ol’ Dirty Bastard – Slow Flow (Audio) Video

Bringing ODB on this, now that gave me chills. What a great idea. Damn. RIP ODB.

Busta Rhymes, Chris Rock, Rakim, Pete Rock – E.L.E. 2 Intro (Audio) Video

Busta Rhymes – Where I Belong (Audio) featuring Mariah Carey Video

Ok, elements of the backing track, melody and even the lyrics are reminiscent of their previous collab and I really enjoy that subliminal connection.

This track isn’t as much of a timeless-classic status as “I Know What You Want” but it’s still a great song.

Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip – Don’t Go (Audio) Video

Busta Rhymes – True Indeed Video

I just wish this track was longer. Real classic vibes on a good beat. Damn. Such an artist.

Busta Rhymes, Vybz Kartel – The Don & The Boss (Official Video)

The blend of these heavy-hitting artists from different genres works so well on this track. BOM-BAP!

Busta Rhymes – Satanic (Audio) Video

The best part of this track is Chris Rock’s unmistakeable screeching which is fucking hilarious, bringing some lightness to an otherwise dark track.

Busta Rhymes – The Purge Video

E.L.E. 2 The Wrath of God (Audio) featuring Minister Louis Farrakhan Video

Featuring Anderson .Paak – YUUUU (Audio) Video
